Community Outreach

In addition to direct services programming, La Oportunidad engages in community outreach through two annual events and a television show.

  • The Latino Youth Peace Conference is an annual event that provides Latino youth, school staff, mentors and community leaders the opportunity to gather together and explore the power of peace and peacemaking, as well as address important issues impacting Latino youth. The conference is planned by a committee of youth leaders under the guidance of La Oportunidad staff. The Latino Youth Peace Conference, which takes place in April, serves approximately 200 youth annually.
  •

  • Approximately 2,000 community members receive information and services in the areas of health care, financial education, social services, and education at the annual La Feria Family Resource Fair. La Feria takes place at the Midtown Farmer's Market ona Saturday in August each year.
  •

  • La Oportunidad co-produces En Familia (In Family), a weekly Spanish-language television program aired on Twin Cities Public Television (TPT), Metro Communication Network (MCN) and Minneapolis Television Network (MTN) aimed to the Latino community. "En Familia" brings information and resources, and empowers its viewers to thrive and contribute to the strength of the community.
  •

  • On May 24, 2007, La Oportunidad celebrated its 20th anniversary with a community celebration, Peace is Possible. At the celebration, 375 adults and 85 children enjoyed a free community meal and dessert, entertainment, raffles, and educational activities for the whole family.
